A/W Trends – Sleeveless Cover-ups

The unpredictable Irish weather is a common topic of conversation. We’re always talking about it! Not surprising when you can literally experience four seasons in any one day. It’s pretty fair to say that the weather definitely affects our wardrobe choice here at The Dupe Diaries, and probably for many of you also. Claire and I love our fashion but we also like to be practical and comfortable. This week I’m talking about one of my absolute wardrobe staples – sleeveless cover-ups.

I think these are one of the greatest things to have in your wardrobe and are so practical all year round. They can keep you cosy without weighing you down and look so stylish. They’re fantastic for travelling and won’t see you running through the airport, a hot mess! I have tonnes of waistcoats and gilets, in a multitude of styles and I wear them all the time, summer through winter. If I’m being honest, I probably have a bit of an obsession. Claire can testify to this…

But my addiction isn’t all bad. I can impart some of my sleeveless wisdom on you lovely ladies. Here’s a couple of my favourites at the moment that you can wear straight away and will see you through to next summer.

Raw Edge Sleeveless Jacket, Topshop €58

I actually own this one. I bought it earlier in the summer and have lived in it since. The material is a heavy jersey so it does provide quite a bit of warmth. I’ve worn this over sleeveless tops and t-shirts during the warmer weeks of the summer and now that it’s gotten a bit chillier, I throw it over a light knit jumper when I’m looking to add a bit of style to my outfit. The length and structure is great if you’re having a bad day and want to cover up… we’re all girls here, we all have those days!

I love the camel colour which I bought. I’m loving anything camel coloured at the moment. It’s just a really chic shade. Very effortless but expensive looking. It’s also available in a number of different colours if you don’t like the camel, including white, navy, rust and powder blue, which would all be fab going into A/W. This sleeveless jacket is fantastic for throwing over anything and instantly jazzes up your outfit.

Long Furry Waistcoat, Zara €49.95

Fur gilets are another trademark ‘me’ look, come winter. I have about 5 different ones in an array of colours. I find them great for shopping during the colder months (Christmas shopping season is just around the corner, might I remind you) when you’re in and out of the shops and need to keep warm without overheating.

This beige coloured number from Zara is so luxurious looking (and feeling). You won’t want to take it off once you’ve tried it on. For €50, this is such a good investment. If you don’t have a faux fur gilet, you need to get this one. If you do have one…you still need to get this!

Khaki Belted Longline Sleeveless Jacket, New Look €34.99

Khaki is on another of my favourite colours at the moment. I love basic colours and I think khaki is perfect throughout the year. It always seems to make a comeback as a key A/W trend. I am lusting after this long line khaki cover up. The material is quite light so it won’t keep you too toasty but is perfect for now and would be great over a cream knit in the colder months. It’s simple tailoring and light structure allows it to flow really nicely so it won’t swamp you. I think this is a really good alternative to the traditional khaki parka or military style jacket – it’s more elegant and ladylike. It is quite long so I’d recommend wearing it with heeled boots, like these great ones Claire recently recommended. New Look have an amazing range of sleeveless jackets which are great quality and really affordable.

Sleeveless Faux Leather Biker Jacket, Topshop £48

Who doesn’t love a good leather jacket? It’s such a wardrobe staple that goes with everything and can instantly change up any outfit. I bought a real leather biker jacket about four years ago in Oasis and it’s still going strong but I’ve been thinking of adding a new one to my wardrobe, just for the sake of something new, and I think I may have found the perfect one. This sleeveless biker from Topshop is very cool looking and the ultimate accessory for making your outfit a little more edgy. This is a great option for a summer leather jacket (I know, the summer is only just over and already I’m thinking about next year!). It’s faux leather so is more affordable than the real deal but it doesn’t have that awful ‘pleather’ look.

Silver Metallic Taffeta Sleeveless Jacket, River Island €75

This metallic waistcoat is on my ‘to buy’ list. I adore it. The colour is way out there and certainly not for the shrinking violets but fear not, this waistcoat does come in other colours, if you want something more subdued. I can see myself wearing this silver sleeveless waistcoat with a black leather mini skirt and black tights for an ultra glam but easy look.

I love these sleeveless tux style jackets for adding a bit of glamour to a relatively casual outfit. Again, great when you want that extra layer but don’t need the full warmth of a jacket or coat. I might not go for a head to toe silver ensemble but if you were going for this style sleeveless jacket in, say, white or black, try teaming it up with matching trousers for a really fashionable going-out look. Perfect for dinner and drinks with the girls.

Sleeveless Safari Jacket, Oasis €37

This sleeveless jacket is so expensive looking. It’s very simply tailored, making it a great option for those of you working in an office but is equally great for dressing up a pair of dark skinnies. It’s light enough to wear now but again, it’d be great for layering up over a jumper, coming into winter. It looks slightly pink in the photo but is more of a natural cream colour.

I’ve saved the best bit for last…this sleeveless jacket is reduced from €94 to €37! Well who doesn’t love a bargain!? They’re selling out quick online so get to it if you love this one!

What’s your take on the sleeveless trend? Have you bought any yet or do you prefer your jackets with sleeves?!
