Love them or loathe them, there’s no denying that the Christmas sales are a great time to pick up a few bargains. If you can bare the madness of frantic shoppers everywhere, bumper to bumper traffic within a 5 mile radius of shopping centres and the less-than-enthusiastic retail staff (I’ve been there, I understand your pain), you’re sure to nab yourself some great deals. I must admit, I did log on to a few of my favourite websites on Christmas day to check if their sales had started so you can imagine that I’m quite excited with all the sales now in full swing. I’ll be picking up the usual bits and bobs (i.e. clothes and accessories that I definitely don’t need, will probably never wear but are half price so, hey!) but there are a couple of things that are always worth investing in during the sales. Here are some of our top picks from the Christmas sales.
Leather Jacket in Taupe reduced to €89.99 from €159 (Zara)
A leather jacket is an absolute staple in any wardrobe and I always think it’s worth spending a little extra to get real leather. I bought a black leather biker about four years ago in Oasis, in their sale and it is still going strong and has that great worn leather look now. I’m going nuts for this taupe jacket from Zara. The colour is something a bit different and looks very expensive. It’s 100% sheep leather so it’s butter-soft. This is a fantastic investment piece that will stay in your wardrobe forever.
H by Hudson Folly Leather Chelsea boots reduced to €87.50 from €205.88 (Asos)
I wear ankle boots pretty much all year round and I’m always on the lookout for a pair of good quality boots so I love this pair of leather boots from Asos. You can never go wrong with Chelsea boots – they’re comfy, stylish and dressy enough to jazz up any outfit. Again, invest in a good pair that will see you through a couple of years.
Lanvin Leopard print calf hair and leather tote reduced to €1,314 from €2,190 (Net-A-Porter)
Ok so this is our fantasy pick but a girl can dream! This stunning bag from high-end design house Lanvin will set you back a pretty penny but with a saving of 40% on the original price, if you had the cash to splash, you could certainly use this as justification for buying it!
I recently had a Payot facial, in the Oceo Spa at Seafield Hotel and my skin has been in great condition ever since, despite a hectic few weeks over Christmas! The products they used were gorgeous and although I have very sensitive skin, they didn’t irritate it. This set from Beauty Bay contains three products – Perform Lift Jour Lifting Firming Care Moisturiser, Perform Lift Regard Eye Contour And Eyelid Lifting Care and Perform Sculpt Masque Lipo Sculpting Tightening Mask – which tackle the signs of ageing. I don’t know about you girls but after the festive season, I’m in desperate need of some skin TLC. The three products are individually worth over €98 so you’re making a great saving on this set and it allows you to try out the brand.
Stila Cosmetics Trust in Love Set reduced to £18 from £30 (Cult Beauty)
No sale shopping would be complete without some makeup purchases. The Stila brand has been around yonks but has become a firm favourite with beauty bloggers and makeup artists in recent years. This set features 12 eye colours which are all very wearable shades, a lip glaze and mascara, all in a handy little palette. This would make the perfect gift for a friend, sister, mum or maybe just a nice little post-Christmas present from you, to you!
Scribe by Roz Tuxedo Dress reduced to €80 from €295 (House of Fraser, Dundrum)
So you’re gonna have to scoot on down to Dundrum Town Centre pronto to pick up this bargain. Irish model and blogger Roz Purcell recently designed a beautiful range of tailored pieces which have been donned by many fashionistas. I was in House of Fraser in Dundrum yesterday and they had a number of her tuxedo style dress reduced down to €80 from €295, in a range of metallic shades. I’m still very tempted to go back and get one. Do I need a sparkly tuxedo dress? No. Do I want a sparkly tuxedo dress? Very much so! Watch this space!
