We all love picking up new make-up tips and tricks, and who better to learn from than the professionals!? So when we heard that No7 was holding a masterclass in Boots in Dundrum with top Irish make-up artist Judy Wong, we were only too excited to run along.
Judy Wong has worked in the beauty industry for more than 10 years, working for international brands such as MAC, Laura Mercier, Chanel and Tom Ford. She’s painted the faces of celebrities, political figures (yes, they all wear make-up, even the men) and models. You name it, she’s done it! She’s now Pro Artist for No7 and spends her time painting not only famous faces, but us average women too. She puts huge emphasis on creating looks that are fuss-free and simple for the average day. Judy’s No7 masterclass was all about creating a quick and flawless face while allowing your natural features to show.
Here’s our top tips that we learned from Judy’s masterclass;
Skincare, skincare, skincare!
We hear this all the time – it’s all about looking after your skin but this was a big point from the masterclass. Judy fully prepped the skin before applying anything. She used the No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Oil (€14.25) first, which is really soothing and contains rosehip oil and Vitamin E, so it leaves the skin squeaky clean and hydrated. She then applied moisturiser, eye cream and lip balm. We sometimes forget the damage that can be done to the skin through wearing make-up, drinking, smoking, and just general pollution and stress, so it’s really important to care for your skin as best as possible. The No7 skincare range is so good and really inexpensive. They have a few different ranges so there’s something to suit all skin types.

Contouring is something that I think we’re all still trying to come to terms with. There are so many different products and methods – some making you look more sculpted than Michelangelo’s David! But for everyday, less is more. Judy demonstrated a technique which I’d never really seen before. Rather than buffing a line of powder down under your cheekbones, she applied the Perfectly Bronzed Dual Powder (€15.50) in gentle, upward, sweeping motions, in a C shape from your cheekbones up towards your hairline. For a soft, everyday look, you want to emphasise your natural shading, rather than creating a dramatic OTT look and this can be achieved by using Judy’s method.
Quick and simple smoky eyes
Eye make-up is something that always costs me too many minutes in the morning so this part of the make-up application was really interesting to me. Judy applied the Stay Perfect Smoothing and Brightening Eye Base (€9.25) to keep the eye lid matte and eye make-up in place all day. She then drew a thick, messy line of Stay Perfect Shade & Define eye crayon in Coffee Bean (€10.50) along the lash lines and blended upwards into the lid and under the eye to give an effortless Kate Moss smoky eye. Done in less than a minute! I’ll definitely be trying this out in the mornings. Anything for an extra 5 minutes in bed!
Claire recently did a post on the No7 Stay Perfect foundation, but this is a brand that neither of us have used all that much, so it was really refreshing to get engaged with a new brand and new products. The products are such good quality, kind to the skin and really affordable…what’s not to love? The brand uses technology to colour match their products to your skin. This is especially good for picking a foundation. How many times have we all gone in to a beauty counter, humming and hawing about which shade to choose, only to come home with one that’s a tad too Jersey Shore?
And in case you needed another reason to choose No7, they always have amazing offers in Boots. We each picked up a few skincare products, which were 3 for 2. It’s 3 for 2 on all No7 products at the moment and if you buy two cosmetic products you get a free gift. They just make it way too cost efficient to say no!
So excited to try out my new skincare products and the ones from our fab goodie bags which we received at the masterclass!
