Our Ultimate Girls Guide to London

London is one of my favourite places to visit, so I was thrilled to be back this weekend just past, for a quick girly getaway with my Mum. From the street style to the fab food, it’s a fantastic city, with so much to do, see and buy! I decided to write this post en route home (greetings from Ryanair flight FR119!) to run through my favourite places and things to do in lovely London!

Getting There

I usually fly to Gatwick with either Aer Lingus or Ryanair, purely because it’s generally relatively cheap and so easy to get into city in 30 minutes on the Gatwick Express. With most of my flights, I book through Skyscanner because it’s so handy to compare all the different flight options between various airlines and airports.

Where To Stay

Accommodation is notoriously expensive in London, even for the most basic of hotels. I try to steer clear of areas like Chelsea, Mayfair and Knightsbridge, which tend to be the steepest. This most recent trip we stayed in The Hoxton in Holborn, which is AMAZING! From the quirky décor (shelves with Roberts’ radios and Penguin classics) to the chilled out vibe, this is a fantastic hotel in an ideal location (10 minutes from Oxford Street, Covent Garden and Soho).

Where To Eat

There’s so much choice food wise in London, and brunch in particular is a speciality. I headed to The Riding House Café in Fitzrovia, which I have to say was a favourite. The menu is mouth-watering (I had Avocado Benedict), the cocktails are fantastic and there’s a lovely atmosphere. It’s a little on the pricey side but well worth treating yourself! Jackson & Rye in Soho is a great choice too, with the pancakes being my top choice. Fitzrovia and Soho are my favourite areas to grab food in, although Chelsea and Mayfair have some great (but very expensive) choices too!

Where To Shop

Needless to say, Oxford Street is a must! PrimarkThe Primark is HUGE, and I went a bit mad in there, followed by a jaunt around Topshop at the other end of the street. Again, it’s massive and I get lost in there everytime I visit! Kiko Cosmetics around the corner on Regent Street is a fantastic makeup shop. I think the quality and range is comparable to MAC, but at a fraction of the price. They aren’t in Ireland yet, so I bought loads! I love visting Harrods too – it’s so decadent and the food hall is amazing… the bakery and patisserie are to die for!

Where To Get Glam

To save me lugging my multitude of hair tools and products over with me, I got my hair done in Blow LTD in Covent Garden. They offer a 30 minute blowdry for around €35, plus you can add on a gloss treatment, makeup or nails for a little extra. The salon is really modern but inviting, and while you relax with a glass of Prosecco, the friendly stylists get you glammed up!

What To Wear

The style in London is really edgy and laid back, so I usually go for something casual, but comfortable (it’s really humid at this time of year). I forgot to take a photo of my Saturday outfit, and Sunday I only remembered when I got home to Dublin, so excuse the state of me! I wore the top we featured in our Penneys collage a few weeks back (navy knit) with ripped black jeans (also from Penneys), a pearl and lace necklace from Forever 21 and Converse. Cons are my footwear of choice during the day when I’m doing a lot of walking, but as we were having a little fancy meal in Nobu, I dressed up for the evening. I have been dying to wear this skirt from Chicwish (€36) since I got it, so it was the perfect excuse! I made it a little less girly with a leather jacket, and paired it with a plain black tank.
