After a hectic few months and with the Christmas antics looming, I was craving some R&R on my day off on Monday. I had done some research on line about spas around the country and checked out the various packages they had on offer. I had heard great things about coastal Seafield Golf & Spa Hotel near Gorey, Wexford, and the pictures online definitely did their job to entice me. So without hesitation, I booked myself and my mother dearest in for a day of pampering.
I absolutely love having beauty treatments done but I must admit, I don’t often indulge in them so this was a serious treat for me and one that was well over-needed! We were booked in for the Oceo Oh So Beautiful package, but I’ll tell you all about that later. The beautiful Oceo Spa is part of Seafield Hotel and is accessed through the hotel (which should be noted, is gorgeous). First impressions of the spa as soon as you enter – wow!! It’s a very large space and decorated tastefully, with stylish, dark interiors. You’re immediately calmed walking in here!
The Oceo Spa features so much, including a sauna, saunarium (not really sure what the difference is but, hey!), Turkish and aromatherapy steam rooms, an indoor pool with a hydrotherapy area and my favourite, the outdoor infinity pool. I wasn’t the least bit excited about the latter prior to my visit. An outdoor pool in Wexford, in November… No thanks! Well, wasn’t I pleasantly surprised! This was the nicest thing in the world. It was a small, heated hydrotherapy pool with various jets that are supposed to ease muscle pain and stiffness. It was just like getting into a giant bath – I could have stayed in it all day, but I thought it was time to get out when I started to shrivel up like a prune!
We decided to use the spa facilities before our treatments but you could use these for as long as you want during your visit. It was seriously relaxing and a great way to unwind for a couple of hours.
Next up were our treatments! Located on the other side of the spa are the treatment rooms and this area is a little oasis of tranquillity. The dark, luxurious décor continues and little water features are dotted throughout the spa area. First up were our pedicures and we were brought in together to have these done which was really nice, as we could chat away. The pedicure itself was divine. We definitely neglect our feet but this treatment will leave your hooves feeling brand new in no time.
Next on the menu was the Face and Body Sensation, which comprises a facial specific to your individual skin concerns and a back, shoulder and neck massage, using hot stones. For anyone (like me) who’s never had a hot stone massage before, they do not simply rest the stones on your back! The movies and advertisements for salons and spas would have you think this, but no… They actually incorporate them into the message which is supposedly more beneficial than an ordinary massage, as it promotes greater blood flow. . I definitely enjoyed this part of it and by the time I was having my facial done, I was completely chilled, so much so that I may have had a little nap during my facial!
You’re brought down to the relaxation room when you’re finished your treatments. Again, you can spend as long as you want here, feasting on fruit. Although, after all the swimming and steaming earlier in the day, I was starving and looking for something a little more substantial than half a dozen grapes!
The Oceo Oh So Beautiful package includes over an hour and a half of treatments (and essentially three treatments) and full access to the spa facilities for as long as you want on the day of your visit. It costs €109 per person, which I think is quite reasonable and having had the experience, very worth it. Seafield Hotel is only about an hours drive from Dublin and is situated on gorgeous, secluded grounds so it is the ultimate getaway retreat for those of you in need of a bit of peace and quiet. I’m definitely going to be treating myself more often to little spa days to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
If you’re in need of some pampering or if you’re looking for last minute Christmas gift ideas, I would highly recommend checking out Oceo Spa at Seafield Hotel. All information on their packages and treatments are available here. I’m already on the lookout for my next pampering day. Do you have any recommendations on spa treatments or packages around the country?
